Uma das decisões mais importantes do Capítulo Provincial de 1979 foi a aprovação da separação física dos cursos de Filosofia e Teologia, que eram integrados no Instituto Franciscano de Petrópolis (ITF).

Para dar início a este ambicioso projeto, em 1980 foi constituída uma comissão, que elaborou o Projeto Educacional visando esta nova empreitada.

Uma nova Comissão foi nomeada para dar continuidade aos trabalhos. Durante os contatos, a Comissão foi a Rondinha, no município de Campo Largo, onde a Associação Franciscana de Ensino Senhor Bom Jesus estava construindo um grandioso projeto.

Frei João Crisóstomo Arns, presidente desta Associação, apresentou à Comissão o projeto e manifestou interesse fraterno em doar parte da área para a instalação da nova casa de formação.

Reunida no dia 3 de setembro de 1980, a Comissão recebeu a confirmação oficial da doação do terreno. No dia 11 de novembro deste ano, o Definitório se reuniu em São Paulo e aprovou por unanimidade a proposta.

No ano seguinte, durante o mês de maio, o Definitório escolheu o nome da nova casa: São Boaventura. Logo em seguida, no início de agosto, começou-se a construção da casa. Foram iniciadas três residências.

No dia 5 de novembro de 1981 foi feita a bênção das obras, com a participação do Arcebispo de Curitiba, Dom Pedro Fedalto. Nos dias 14, 15 e 16 de março, o Definitório Provincial se reuniu em Rondinha, colocando na pauta da reunião também os últimos detalhes para a festa de inauguração.

Frei José Fernando Eberhardt, ofm, que acompanhou de perto as obras, descreve assim a inauguração: “O dia 17 de março amanheceu claro e ensolarado, compartilhando a nossa alegria. Logo cedo foram chegando os primeiros confrades dos pontos mais distantes da Província. Mais tarde foram chegando os convidados dos locais mais próximos. Às 10 horas, começamos a celebração da Liturgia da Palavra, com a bênção das construções, presidida pelo Ministro Provincial Frei Basílio Prim: acolhida e ato penitencial, na entrada do terreno; procissão com cânticos e salmos e paradas em cada prédio, para bênçãos e leituras. Assim, após havermos percorridos as três residências (duas dos confrades estudantes e uma da comunidade formadora), as obras da capela, os pátios e jardins e as dependências do Centro Comunitário, detivemo-nos no salão, onde encerramos a Liturgia da Palavra, com a bênção da imagem de São Boaventura, seguida da homilia do Ministro Provincial e da alocução do Arcebispo Metropolitano Dom Pedro Fedalto. Coube também a este a presidência da liturgia eucarística, ladeado por Dom Jerônimo Mazarotto e Dom Carlos Schmidt. Pouco mais de 200 pessoas participaram da celebração – quase todos religiosos e religiosas – sendo que mais de 80 eram concelebrantes”.

One of the most important decisions of the 1979 Provincial Chapter was the approval of the physical separation of the Philosophy and Theology courses, which were integrated into the Instituto Franciscano de Teologia de Petrópolis  (ITF).

To start this ambitious project, in 1980 a commission was set up, which prepared the Educational Project aiming at this new endeavor.

A new Commission was appointed to continue the work. During the contacts, the Commission went to Rondinha, in the municipality of Campo Largo, where the Franciscan Teaching Association Senhor Bom Jesus was building a grandiose project.

Friar João Crisóstomo Arns, president of this Association, presented the project to the Commission and expressed fraternal interest in donating part of the area for the installation of the new formation house.

Meeting on September 3, 1980, the Commission received official confirmation of the donation of the land. On November 11 of this year, the Definitory met in São Paulo and unanimously approved the proposal.

The following year, during the month of May, the Definitory chose the name for the new house: São Boaventura. Soon after, in early August, construction began on the house. Three residences were started.

On November 5, 1981, the works were blessed, with the participation of the Archbishop of Curitiba, Dom Pedro Fedalto. On the 14th, 15th and 16th of March, the Provincial Definitory met in Rondinha, putting on the meeting’s agenda the last details for the inauguration party.

Friar José Fernando Eberhardt, ofm, who closely followed the works, describes the inauguration as follows: “The 17th of March dawned clear and sunny, sharing our joy. Early in the morning, the first confreres arrived from the most distant parts of the Province. Later, guests from the nearest places started to arrive. At 10 am, we began the celebration of the Liturgy of the Word, with the blessing of the buildings, presided over by the Provincial Minister Friar Basílio Prim: welcome and penitential act, at the entrance to the land; procession with songs and psalms and stops at each building for blessings and readings. So, after having visited the three residences (two of the fellow students and one of the formation community), the works of the chapel, the courtyards and gardens and the premises of the Community Center, we stopped in the hall, where we ended the Liturgy of the Word, with the blessing of the image of Saint Bonaventure, followed by the homily of the Provincial Minister and the address of the Metropolitan Archbishop Dom Pedro Fedalto. He also presided over the Eucharistic liturgy, flanked by Dom Jerônimo Mazarotto and Dom Carlos Schmidt. Just over 200 people participated in the celebration – almost all men and women religious – with more than 80 concelebrants”.
